Herpes simplex viruses are categorized into two types: herpes type 1 (Orofacial herpes) or herpes type 2 (Genital herpes).
It can affect the skin, mucosa, and sometimes even the nervous system.
*How to recognize oral herpes:
Herpes starts with a localized heat sensation, tingling, and itching.
Be careful. It is contagious at the outset of these symptoms.
It is characterized by a group of vesicular eruptions visible 24 hours after the announcing symptoms start.


*How long does a cold sore last :
It can last from 7 to 10 days.
In some cases, it may take up to 15 days for the cold sore to completely heal.

*Virus transmission:
The virus is transmitted by direct contact with lesions or secretions.

Precautions:
-Avoid touching your eyes or genital area after touching the cold sore.
-Avoid scratching the cold sore to prevent any superinfection.
-Avoid going to the hospital.

-Avoid kissing.
-Wash your hands after treating or touching the cold sore.
-Do not share your toiletries.
-Do not lend your lip bum or lipstick.
-Avoid any oro-genital contact.
*Triggering factors:
-Immunosuppression.
-Stress.
-Exposure to the sun.
-Fatigue.
-Menstruation.
*Treatment:
–Local antiviral treatment is necessary as soon as the warning signs begin (burning sensation, tingling, itching).
It reduces the contagion period and the severity of the infection.
–Systemic antiviral treatment with aciclovir is effective in case of primary infection.
It also helps reduce recurrences.
